If I rent a car will my personal auto insurance cover me domestically and internationally?

Almost all carriers will provide rental car coverage in the US, its territories and Canada. It is always recommended to purchase the insurance that is offered by the rental car company for three main reasons:

1. If there is an accident, you will not be rated on your current policy or be subject to any deductibles.
2. Many carriers do not provide loss of use, which means if the rental car is involved in an accident, the rental company will charge you for each day the car is unable to be rented out due to accident repairs.
3. If there is a total loss, some carriers will only pay up to the total value of the car you currently have your policy.
