When do I need to put my driving-age child on my auto policy?

When do I need to put my driving-age child on my auto policy?

Once a driver has their license they are to be listed on the auto policy as an insured. Insurance carriers require all household members to be listed on the auto policy.

Adding a youthful driver to a policy can create a large increase. We are more than happy to run a quote when your child has gotten their permit so you can prepare for what is ahead when they pass the test. Additionally, working with Emmanuel Insurance as your dedicated agent, we are able to work with you and assign your youthful driver to the car on the policy which creates the least impact on your premium.

We also want to make sure that all applicable discounts are applied to your policy. The Good Student Discount is the big one! Start the conversation with your kids early; they need to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA as a full time student (up to the age of 22) to earn this discount. Just let your children know, Bad Grades= No Car :) There is also a discount for taking an in class or behind the wheel training, this is counted as one credit and will be applied for either option. Once your child is away at college, there is an additional discount that can be applied if they are away at school over 100 miles with no car. The rating changes as the majority of the year your child does not have access to the car. They are still covered at anytime driving the car, it is understood the availability to the car is limited, which is what generates a discount.
