Why do my rates increase?

Why do my rates increase?

This age old question typically is never addressed with a simple answer or any real explanation. There are many factors contributing to rate increases that often don't involve the insured directly. The stock market, recent year's storms and weather patterns, large losses experienced by the carrier regionally or nationally, mergers & acquisitions, marketing, over head and all the real business considerations it takes to operate an insurance carrier may affect your rate. Your rate is also affected by your own losses and experience. Understanding the economics of insurance will shed some light as to the why, though most of the time it rarely makes us feel any better or allows us to justify why the carrier is doing it to YOU, when you haven't done anything to them.
